The Art of How to Meet and Remember People at Events
Daren McKelvey is such a natural when it comes to being a connector. But there’s also a lot that goes into it that involves years of learning what to do and what not to do.
He believes in doing his homework. He remembers initially getting good at understanding names, faces, and what people are about back from collecting baseball cards. The modern day version of this is LinkedIn! You can definitely train your brain to be good at names and faces – it isn’t a trick but necessary to make some semblance to what otherwise would be the noise.
To truly understand the anatomy of events you need to ask yourself – why are people there?
Balancing serendipity with all of this planning is key.
Try to immediately connect with them digitally on different profiles that they like to be on. Create fear in not forgetting.
We talk through some content searching and planning to grow Daren’s events as well.
Think how you can help and make your mini-profile about the person so you can figure out how to cast them into future events and opportunities.
Find Daren via email, Twitter, LinkedIn, wechat and be sure to connect with him if you’re in NYC!
